Description

A script to automatically bypass the Prints page is bundled into deviantTIDY. Enjoy!

`dancewiththesky also made a Greasemonkey script to do the same thing.

Dear deviantART,

Please stop ramming prints down users' throats.

The majority of deviations created by deviants are simply never going to be made into prints. This is because the resolution is too low, the dimensions are wrong, the piece is not good enough to be considered a print, or in many cases, the deviation is just not supposed to be a print.

We'd like to see deviantART revert back to the previous submission system, where there are two buttons: one for prints and one for non-prints. This way, the user has a choice and feels in control, and people that aren't interested in prints will not be faced with a screen similar to the above.

Here are some more good reasons:

- The vast majority of users simply don't want to make prints. Therefore, the system is wasting the average user's time. The user is not expecting this page. It is bad design.
- deviantART is free, and any commercial options should be opt-in, not opt-out. If people want prints, they will select the option.
- People who are submitting work and not wanting to make prints will most likely face the above screen with a giant red error. Without further reading this page, it is obviously understandable that the user will be confused and wonder if their deviation was submitted successfully. Even I, when I first saw this screen, thought something went wrong and then proceeded to go back and try to re-submit my work.
- Most deviations, including fan-art and work that is the wrong category or sub-standard, cannot be made into prints, according to the Prints agreement. Encouraging everyone to make everything into prints will actually increase the number of policy violations on dA, and also increase the workload of the Prints staff.

deviantART is, on the whole, a good system and a great community, and I am not one to make frequent complaints, but this particular stunt has captured the hatred of thousands of users. I hope this matter can be resolved to keep everyone happy.

While you're reading, I'd also like to point out the fact that over 80% of deviants want preview images back.

Regards,

`BoffinbraiN.

Well, I don't want to skip the prints stage, because otherwise I would forget to make available my better photographs as prints.
